What is pagefile.sys?  Can I delete it?
Dell Inspiron 6000 with Win XP Pro SP3My hard drive is filling up so I am looking for programs and unnecessary files to delete. I did a search of the HD for very large files and found a file called "pagefile.sys " that is over 2 GB in size!!! What is this and can I delete it? Thanks.1 person needs an answerI do too

You can turn off paging but, depending what you do on it, it may have a detrimental effect on your computer. Turn it off by right-clicking My Computer > Properties > Advanced Tab > Settings alongside Performance > Advanced Tab > Change alongside Virtual Memory at the bottom > No paging file. It is, of course, reversible if the machine slows up.Also, if you don't use Hibernation you can save yourself the equivalent in hard drive space as RAM you have installed by turning it off, i.e. right-click Desktop > Properties > Screen Saver Tab > Power at the bottom > Hibernate Tab and remove the tick from ‘Enable Hibernation’.
